Wildlife
Grizedale Forest and its farmed valleys are home to a healthy variety of British wildlife. Red and Roe deer abound and there are badgers, foxes, polecats, and the occasional otter, though of course you’ll be lucky to spot them.

Red squirrels still survive in the forest along with greys. The birdlife is a feature of the area, with a wide range of woodland, farmland and hedgerow birds, and of course the dramatic raptors.

At our feeders at Pepper House we see a good variety of birds at close quarters; we have even had the elusive Hawfinch, and at certain times, a Reed Bunting.

Bird watching
There are several RSPB reserves on the periphery of the Lake District, around Morecambe Bay - notably Leighton Moss. At Hawes Water you may be lucky to glimpse England's only Golden Eagle, whilst at Bassenthwaite Lake in the summer, you can watch ospreys fishing.
